Converting a Cowshed
When Rachel and Andrew bought their forever home: a converted cowshed in Cheshire, they wanted to ensure the kitchen was simple, contemporary and stunning, tying in with the high-end look and feel of the house.
In addition to creating the perfect family home, the couple who own Tyson Lighting, also wanted the space to perfectly showcase some of their innovative lighting products as they planned to bring clients to the house to show the various products in situ in a residential environment.
Â
They changed from the specified kitchen their developer proposed and chose Stuart Frazer as family and friends had Stuart Frazer kitchens and they felt it was the best fit for their property with the clean lines and minimal look that the kitchens offer. For Rachel, it wasn’t just the outside of the kitchen that was important but the internal elements too. She loved SieMatic’s Multimatic system with it’s amazing internal storage systems.
Â
The couple found Stuart Frazer’s Manchester showroom to be impressive and immediately felt at ease and in safe hands with Showroom Manager Paul Rigby. They liked his designs and ideas from the start and changed their initial brief of wanting lots of storage when Paul suggested a dual use for the splashback: a magic glass that alternated between clear and frosted glass so the children could be seen in their playroom.
Making the most of the fantastic garden views was also a priority when designing the kitchen. To ensure the views weren’t obscured the couple designed the lighting scheme themselves with their own products and deliberately avoided pendant lighting which would interrupt the views and went for simple, non-interfering plaster in fittings and concealed profiles.
Â
When it came to colours, Paul persuaded them to go for a timeless white kitchen with white Corian worktops. In hindsight they feel this was the right decision as it enhances the light, airy feel of the room and is the perfect minimal backdrop that doesn’t clash with other eclectic pieces of furniture and artwork in the room.
Â
The couple are delighted with the kitchen and Stuart Frazer, “this is our forever home, so we wanted the best kitchen and we were mindful that if we ever did come to sell, it needed to be high end. It’s the perfect family space and party place too. We love entertaining in it. We needed it to feel sociable too and it does. It sounds like a cliché, but we spend all our time in this room and love people’s reaction when they walk in as it really has the wow factor.â€
